Volunteer as a Men Who Talk Group Facilitator
Every week, men across the UK join our online groups to talk, share, and find support. As a volunteer facilitator, you’ll help create that safe space — guiding conversations, offering support, and making sure every voice is heard.
With just one session a month, you can make a real difference in someone’s life — and join a supportive team that’s changing the conversation around men’s mental health.

About the Role
-
Facilitate one online group per month (7:00–8:30pm, with a short prep and debrief)
-
Join a team of three facilitators running each session
-
Be online from 6:45–8:45pm for your session
-
Help create a safe, supportive space where men can talk openly
Why Volunteer With Us
You’ll have the opportunity to develop new skills, work with a diverse team of passionate individuals across the UK, and help to make a real contribution to our small but ambitious charity as we grow.
All volunteers will benefit from:
- full induction
- full training, including:
- Level 3 Safeguarding Adults
- Data Protection
- Zero Suicide Alliance, Suicide Awareness Training
- Carolyn Spring Trauma Training
- clinical supervision
- regular check-ins with Men Who Talk Staff
All this, plus you’ll be making genuine real time contributions towards the improvement of men’s mental health in the UK.
Not at all. We are looking for people who care about creating a safe and supportive space for men to talk openly. What matters most is your willingness to listen, show empathy, and help foster conversation.
That’s absolutely fine. Many of our volunteers are first-time facilitators. We provide clear guidance, practical tools, and training so you feel confident before leading a group. And remember, you won’t be left on your own without support.
Plenty. We take time to prepare you thoroughly, combining initial training, induction with ongoing check-ins. You’ll have access to free training, shadowing sessions, and a community of fellow volunteers to share experiences with.
You’re never expected to “fix” things or have all the answers. We’ll train you to manage tricky situations, and there’s always a safeguarding plan in place. If something feels too heavy, support is just a phone call or an email away.
Life happens, and we understand that. We’ll work with you to find a balance that suits your availability, whether that means stepping back for a while or taking on fewer sessions.
Volunteers need to be over 18 and have the right to live and work in the UK. Beyond that, the main requirement is a genuine commitment to listening and supporting men in an open, respectful way.
It’s straightforward. You’ll complete a short application form, have an informal chat with us, and if successful, move into training. From start to finish, most people are ready to begin within a few weeks to a month.
Training covers a group induction, Level 3 Safeguarding, Suicide Awareness, Trauma Training and GDPR. It is designed to give you confidence without overwhelming you.
